Hormones & Laser Hair Removal - Why Your Results Might Not Be What You Expected

If you’ve ever sat there thinking… “why isn’t this working the way I thought it would?” when it comes to your laser results, I just want to say this straight away… it’s not always you, and it’s not always the laser.

A lot of the time, it comes down to your hormones… and honestly, this is one of the biggest things that just isn’t explained properly before people start.

Because yes, laser works by targeting the pigment in the hair during its active growth phase… but your hormones are what actually control how much hair you grow, how thick it is, and how quickly it comes back. So if your hormones are fluctuating - which, by the way, is completelynormal - it can change how your body responds to treatment.

And this is where I see so many women start to question everything… like thinking it’s not working, or that they’re doing something wrong… when actually, their body just needs a slightly different approach.

Especially if you’ve got things like PCOS, or you’ve ever struggled with hormonal imbalances, irregular periods, or excess facial hair… you might notice certain areas being more stubborn (the chin and neck are the usual ones), or that your hair seems to grow back quicker than expected. And again… that’s not you failing, that’s your hormones doing their thing.

It doesn’t mean laser won’t work for you though… not at all. It just means your journey might not look the same as someone else’s.

You might need a few extra sessions, you might need maintenance long-term, and sometimes even the timing between your appointments matters more than people realise. Laser is still such an effective treatment for hormonal hair… but it’s about managing it, not chasing this idea of perfection.

And this is exactly why I stay away from the term “hairfree”… because it can be so misleading. Laser is a hair reduction treatment, and especially when hormones are involved, the goal is softer, finer, slower-growing hair… less irritation… less stress around it… just more control.

Not necessarily zero hair forever.

And I think what’s really important to say as well, because no one really talks about this part…is the emotional side of it all.

Because when you’ve dealt with hair growth for years, it’s never just about the hair, is it… it’s how often you’re thinking about it, planning around it, checking it, managing it. And when that starts to ease, even slightly, it can feel like a weight’s been lifted that you didn’t even fully realise you were carrying.

That’s why my approach is never just “this is your package, off you go”… especially when hormones are involved. It has to feel realistic, supportive, and tailored to you… because your body isn’t working against you, it just needs to be understood properly.

So if you’re reading this and you’re thinking “this sounds like me”… the best thing you can do is just ask the questions. That’s exactly why I offer free consultations (virtual calls too!!) because sometimes you just need someone to actually explain what’s going on in a way that makes sense.

And honestly… if your results haven’t been perfect, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed, it doesn’t mean your body is difficult, and it definitely doesn’t mean laser won’t work for you.

Sometimes… it just means we need to look a little deeper.

If this sounds like you, you’re not alone 🤍
